'Selected Shorts: Small moments'
On this episode, a story of American small town life by J. Robert Lennon and James Thurber's 'The Wood Duck.'

by Isaiah Sheffer

Listen to the show:

J. Robert Lennon's "Eight Pieces for the Left Hand," is a segmented story of American small town life, threaded through with the seven movements of Ned Rorem's quartet "United States." The story is read by Stephen Lang; the Ying Quartet performs the Rorem.

James Thurber's "The Wood Duck," read by Malachy McCourt, is the light hearted finish to the program.

There are currently a dozen "Selected Shorts" thematic CDs, which feature listeners' best-loved stories, including "Baseball!," "Timeless Classics," "Food Fictions," "Travel Tales," "Falling in Love," "Edith Wharton," and most recently, "Pets!," "Tales of Betrayal," "Family Matters" and "Wartime Lives."
