Ballet Minnesota present their annual Fall Concert at the Fitzgerald Theater on Friday, November 6th at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 7th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Building on the success of last years performance of “Beethoven’s 9th Symphony,” this year concert showcases original choreography works by Artistic Director Andrew Rist to Master Composers, including Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and Mozart's "Symphony No. 40."
Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" is Classic and Jazz intertwined forming captivating, rhythmic movement inspired by this American favorite. Much of the inspiration for the work came to Gershwin during a train journey to Boston, "with its steely rhythms, its rattlety-bang . . . I suddenly heard - and even saw on paper - the complete construction of the rhapsody from beginning to end. I heard it as a sort of musical kaleidoscope of America - of our vast melting pot, of our unduplicated national pep, of our blues, our metropolitan madness." The actual music was written in a week on his return to New York.
Mozart's "Symphony No. 40" is an intensely stirring piece that honors a tender life filled with passion and grace. As one of the last symphonies Mozart composed, “Symphony No. 40” is unquestionably one of his most admired works, and it is frequently performed and recorded.
Tickets are $21.00 for Adults, $17.00 for Senior Citizens, $10.00 for Children 12 and under. There will be an additional $2.50 facility fee added to the price of each ticket. Minnesota Public Radio members receive a discount.
