Description
The Kenwood Symphony presents Anthony Ross performing Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B minor. This concerto was originally written in 1895 for the composer's friend, Hanuš Wihan, and has since been dubbed by critics as the "greatest" cello concerto. Mr. Ross has served as principal cellist for the Minnesota Orchestra since 1991 and is a frequent collaborator with the Kenwood Symphony. On the same program, the orchestra will also join forces with the Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble to present Respighi's symphonic poem, Pines of Rome, written in 1924. It is the second orchestral work in the composer’s "Roman trilogy", preceded by Fountains of Rome (1917) and followed by Roman Festivals (1928). Each of the four movements depicts pine trees in different locations in Rome at different times of the day.
