Ann Arbor News Closing
The publisher of the Ann Arbor News announced today that the 174 year old newspaper will cease publication in July.
Publisher Laurel Champion informed the News staff this morning, and posted a letter to readers online.
Champion blames mounting financial losses for the decision.
The Ann Arbor News is one of many Michigan newspapers struggling with declining advertising revenues. The Detroit News and The Free Press are planning major changes as well, including reducing home delivery. Changes are also rumored to be coming to The Flint Journal, The Saginaw News and the Bay City Times.
But the end of publishing doesn't necessarily mean the end for the Ann Arbor News. The publisher plans to shift to a new online service (annarbor.com). © Copyright 2010, Michigan Radio
