Congress About to Approve Great Lakes Compact
Legislation to prevent other states from siphoning off water from the Great Lakes is expected to get final Congressional approval later today.
The House is scheduled to vote on the Great Lakes Compact this evening.
Southwest Michigan Congressman Fred Upton says the legislation will prevent the diversion of the region's valuable fresh water resource.
"We don't want anyone to get their mitts on Great Lakes water. And this will put an end to that, once and for all," says Upton.
The Senate has already approved the Great Lakes Compact. The president is expected to sign it into law in the coming weeks. © Copyright 2009, Michigan Radio
