Dave Bing Running For Detroit Mayor
Businessman and ex-Detroit Pistons star Dave Bing says he's running for Detroit mayor.
Bing tells Detroit Free Press columnist Rochelle Riley he'll enter the nonpartisan Feb. 24 primary election. The Associated Press left messages for Bing Friday seeking comment.
The top two finishers face off in a May 5 special election to choose a permanent replacement for the jail-bound Kwame Kilpatrick, who stepped down Thursday after pleading guilty for lying in court.
Ex-city council President Ken Cockrel Jr. became interim mayor Friday and says he'll run in the primary.
The 64-year-old Bing says Detroit needs a mayor "with a clean, fresh outlook." He played for the Pistons from 1966 to 1975 and has run The Bing Group for 28 years. © Copyright 2009, Associated Press
