Obama Regains Lead in National Poll
(2008-09-18)

(Associated Press) -

The latest Gallup daily tracking poll suggests Barack Obama has regained his lead.

The poll of registered voters found 48 percent of those surveyed favoring Obama, while 44 percent preferred John McCain.

McCain caught Obama at the end of the GOP convention in early September. And since then, McCain built as a much as a 5-percentage-point lead in the Gallup daily survey.

But the poll suggests voters' views of the race have returned to about where they were for much of the summer. Prior to the conventions, the Democratic presidential candidate generally had a modest but consistent lead over his Republican rival.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
