Election 2008
McCain Woos Michigan's Republican Faithful
John McCain wooed the Republican faithful in Grand Rapids last night.
It was part of a campaign swing through the state focused on Michigan's economy.
A thunderous ovation greeted The GOP presidential nominee and his running mate as they walked into the field house at Grand Rapids Community College.
John McCain and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin took turns taking shots at Washington politics in general, and Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's economic proposals in particular.
McCain himself promised to give domestic automakers loans and other help to build more fuel efficient, more sellable cars and trucks.
"The leader in the world will again be Detroit, Michigan, and the state of Michigan. And the best workers in the world. We will make sure they have what's necessary to do their job," said McCain.
Obama also supports federal loans for Detroit automakers to retool.
With about 6 weeks left before the November election, Obama holds a slim lead over McCain in most Michigan polls. © Copyright 2009, Michigan Radio
