A Memorial Fifty-eight Years Late
ANN ARBOR, MI
(Michigan Radio) -
On June 23, 1950 Northwest Airlines Flight 2501 crashed into Lake Michigan, there were no survivors. The bodies of the victims were never recovered. Or were they?
Valerie van Heest is the co-founder of the group Michigan Shipwreck Research Associates and she believes she knows what happened to those who died in that crash. She told her story to Michigan Radio's Charity Nebbe.
A permanent memorial featuring the names of all the victims of the crash will be unveiled Saturday. Many family members will be attending and Valerie van Heest is also hoping members of the public will come to pay their respects. The ceremony is at 1pm at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph.
