Deal in Zimbabwe
(2008-09-15)
Zimbabwe's opposition leader Tsvangirai signs a power-sharing deal in Harare
(Associated Press) -

Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has given up nearly 30 years of one-man rule by signing a power-sharing agreement with his political rival, Morgan Tsvangirai.

Police had to fire warning shots and use dogs to separate the crowds supporting each rival candidate before the agreement was signed today.

Western nations, which could provide the millions of dollars in aid needed by Zimbabwe, are cautious about the unity deal. The European Union says it's too early to ease sanctions imposed on Mugabe because of his autocratic rule.
