Anti-War Protesters March on GOP Convention
(2008-09-04)
(Associated Press) -

As John McCain makes his acceptance speech tonight, protesters are planning to march outside the Republican National Convention to call for an end to the Iraq war.

Police have already arrested more than 100 protesters in downtown Minneapolis early today, after a concert by the rock group Rage Against the Machine.

The Anti-War Committee is organizing tonight's march. It's denouncing the increased presence of police in riot gear and what it calls acts of "intimidation" in the streets of St. Paul.

Including the Minneapolis protest, police have arrested 422 people since Saturday in pre-emptive raids and at protests marred by violence in downtown St. Paul.

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty is blaming the violence on a small group he describes as "anarchists, nihilists, and goofballs who want to break stuff and hurt people."
