Robots Take Over Part of Ann Arbor
(2008-08-10)
(Michigan Radio) - Robots are taking over a part of Ann Arbor on Monday.

The College of Engineering at the University of Michigan is celebrating the robotics industry.

Jon Kinsey is Director of Research Relations at the College. He says the robotics conference will display the use of robots in consumer, military and research settings.

"So you get a chance to see robots drawing, robots flying, robots in and under the water, you won't see the robots in space but you'll see one that's been in space."

Kinsey says robotics is a fast-emerging area of research and development for Michigan universities, industries and military bases.

"This technology in these key areas for military and consumer applications can be a piece of the puzzle for the state of
Michigan, in offering some diversifcation of industry."

The conference is from 9 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the North Campus of the University of Michigan.

Remarks will be in 1670 Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) building at 2260 Hayward Street on U of M's North Campus in Ann Arbor. Exhibits will be in the atrium of the CSE building, on the lawn outside the building, and around the Class of 1947E Reflecting Pool.

Parking is available in the NC21 parking lot.
