The Wolves of Isle Royale
ANN ARBOR, MI
(Michigan Radio) -
One very cold winter about sixty years ago some wolves crossed an ice bridge in Lake Superior and found themselves a new home in the moose rich landscape of Isle Royale. The rocky wilderness of what is now Isle Royale National Park provided a refuge for the wolves when their numbers were declining everywhere else and the perfect laboratory for ecologists.
Rolf Peterson is a wildlife ecologist at Michigan Technological University and he has been studying the wolves of Isle Royale for nearly 40 years. He has just released a new version of his book, "The Wolves of Isle Royale: A Broken Balance." Michigan Radio's Charity Nebbe asked him what he found during his winter study of the island this year.
