Containing a Pandemic
ANN ARBOR, MI
(Michigan Radio) -
Researchers have been studying the flu pandemic of 1918 to find out what steps communities took to protect their citizens. They are hoping that by discovering what worked in 1918 they can develop tools we can use today. The most effective tools they have found so far are social distancing measures, such as school closures. Dr. Howard Markel of the University of Michigan is one of the lead researchers on this project. He talks with Michigan Radio's Charity Nebbe about what he's found and how a pandemic could play out today.
