Bill Would Make Breastfeeding in Public a Civil Right
Women could no longer be asked to leave restaurants or other public places while breastfeeding their babies under a measure approved by the House Judiciary Committee.
Marilee Woolworth is with the La Leche League of Michigan.
She says it is, simply, a civil right.
"It just keeps happening again and again, where women will be someplace and someone who is misinformed will come up to them and say, Oh, you can't do that here, it's not allowed,' Woolworth says. "So I do think we need the legislation."
Supporters say Michigan is one of only seven states that doesn't give women the right to breastfeed in public.
Medical experts say breastfed babies have a lower incidence of obesity and other diseases.
