Romney, Back In Michigan, Doesn't Back Down From Support For Wall Street

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaks at a rally for Pete Hoekstra in Grand Rapids. Dustin Dwyer
(Michigan Radio) - Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney was back in Michigan today to support Republican Pete Hoekstra's bid for governor.

Romney officially endorsed Hoekstra last week. He came to Michigan for campaign stops in Grand Rapids and Detroit.

Democrats attacked Romney in recent days for his defense of Wall Street as the Obama administration pushes for new banking regulations.

During his visit, Romney didn't back down from his strategy.

"And frankly, I don't believe in discriminating against anybody, regardless of the street they're from," he said. "You see, all the streets in America are connected, and scape-goating and demonizing individuals based on where they live or where they work is a big mistake."

Romney went on to say that any bad actors should be punished appropriately. Meanwhile Hoekstra, who's running for governor, said most of what he saw of recent Senate hearings on Goldman Sachs was political posturing.
