Decision Day for the Pontiac Silverdome ANN ARBOR, MI (Michigan Radio) -

An Oakland County judge may decide today the fate of the planned sale of the Pontiac Silverdome.

A Canadian real estate company was the high bidder last week at a private auction of the 80 thousand seat football stadium.

The Silverdome sold for about 1% of its original $55 million price tag. Pontiac's state appointed emergency financial manager defended the sale, pointing out the sale will save the city a million and a half dollars a year in maintenance costs.

But the sale was immediately challenged by a previous bidder. A Bloomfield Hills attorney had offered 20 million dollars for the Silverdome in 2008. But Pontiac's then-mayor rejected the plan to turn the stadium into a combination race track and casino.

A judge is expected to decide this afternoon whether to nullify the sale to the Canadian company or let it go through. If the sale goes through, the new owners say they would like to bring professional soccer to Pontiac. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
