MDOT: Not Enough Money for Road, Bridge Projects
MDOT says falling state gas tax and vehicle registration revenues helped create a shortfall of about $84 million needed to qualify for matching federal money.
About 100 pavement improvement and 575 bridge projects will be delayed.
MDOT says the lack of funds will also impact the replacement of traffic signs and the replacement and retiming of traffic signals.
Even if the state gets the $84 million it needs for matching federal aid, MDOT says many projects will still be delayed, including rail freight, passenger transportation and aviation programs.
According to a 2008 report, Michigan must at least double its investment in transportation to provide an adequate level of service.
