Jackson Calls For More Regulation, Fewer Foreclosures
(2010-01-25)
(Michigan Radio) - The Reverend Jesse Jackson was in Detroit Sunday to preach and rally at Detroit's Central United Methodist Church.

Jackson's sermon took direct aim at Congress and the Obama Administration. He says the Federal government has given the nation's banks too much money with too few restrictions.

He also criticized spending on military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He says that money could be better spent in places like Detroit.

Jackson led the congregation in a chant of "Reconstruction jobs security and safety," and said, "If it's good enough for Afghanistan and good enough for Iraq, it's good enough for Detroit."

Jackson called on religious leaders to press for more government spending on jobs, education, and housing. He says they should follow the example of Doctor Martin Luther King Jr., who called for similar activism from Central United Methodist's pulpit in a sermon just two weeks before his death.
