Making Hospital Food Healthier
More than 100 Michigan hospitals have eliminated trans-fats from food offered from cafeterias to patient's bedsides.
Trans-fats have long been linked to obesity and other health problems. So why are Michigan hospitals only now removing them from the menu?
"We have a culture in health care in this country of treating illness and not necessarily engaging early on in prevention and wellness," says Brian Peters, with the Michigan Health and Hospital Association.
Peters says eliminating trans-fats from the hospital foods is just one step Michigan hospitals are taking to improve not only the health of patients, but of the community as a whole. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
