Nationwide Campaign Against Pulte Ends In Michigan
About 50 protesters came to Pulte headquarters, singing modified Christmas carols to show their displeasure with the country's largest homebuilder.
A coalition of labor groups and homeowner advocates say Pulte helped cause the foreclosure crisis by pushing homebuyers into unfavorable subprime loans. They groups say Pulte continues to make those loans, and they want the company to change its practices and help homeowners facing foreclosure.
They also say Pulte has violated labor laws. Former Pulte worker Roberto Franco says he was fired when he tried to start a union. "I'm proud to be here and I'm proud of all the Pulte workers. They have to step up and not let anybody abuse them."
Pulte says the campaign is an attempt to intimidate its contractors into hiring only union employees.
