(Michigan Radio) -

114 Michigan schools have closed so far this school year, amid concerns that Swine Flu is spreading.

School officials across the state are seeing rising student absentee rates.

Martin Ackley is the spokesman for the State Department of Education. He says schools are reacting quickly to reports of H1N1.

"Its having an impact on schools across Michigan...we think," says Ackley, "Schools are closing without necessarily identified as H1N1."

Ackley says the rash of school closings forced the Education Department to extend the MEAP testing schedule into early November.
