The Fight to Control Detroit Public Schools
ANN ARBOR, MI
(Michigan Radio) -
Detroit Public Schools' emergency financial manager is telling the city's board of education it can't appoint a new school superintendent.
Financial manager Robert Bobb sent a letter to the board today saying they should have consulted him before naming a new superintendent last night.
District spokesman Steve Wasko says state law gives the emergency financial manager broad control over the Detroit school district.
"Clearly a personnel appointment is a fiscal manner here or anywhere else," says Wasko.
The Board of Education is expected to file suit Monday, to challenge Robert Bobb's control of the district.
Since taking over in March, Bobb has rarely consulted the Board of Education as he has investigated financial mismanagement in the Detroit Public Schools. © Copyright 2010, Michigan Radio
