(Michigan Radio) - Michigan colleges and universities are expecting to see an increase in the number of military veterans taking classes.

The New Post 9/11 GI Bill takes effect this month.

The benefits package is much more generous than the old GI Bill. The new program offers more money to millions of vets to go to college after their military service.

Phil Larson works with veterans at the University of Michigan. He expects the new GI Bill may increase the number of vets on the Ann Arbor campus.

"I think we will definitely see an uptick in the number of in students who are definitely applying," says Larson. "I think those will go up significantly. And I think those accepted will be up as well."

Larson expects U of M's graduate and professional schools will see the greatest influx of vets taking advantage of the GI Bill.
