(Michigan Radio) - A green energy company hopes to create 250 jobs in St. Clair. Energy Components Group builds parts for wind turbines and solar energy panels.

Doug Alexander is the Executive Director of St. Clair's Economic Developmental Alliance. He says the city has suffered from changes in the automotive industry, and will benefit from some new business.

"In St. Claire county we've lost probably over 2,000 jobs over the past 18 months just in automotive plastics alone," Alexander said, "so this is a small but important first step toward diversification into other non-automotive markets for our community."

Todd Kilgus is the president of the company. He hopes his company helps attract more businesses to the city.

"We believe there's going to be a spillover effect with potentially other suppliers in the renewable energy markets coming to that region. That's our hope," Kilgus said.

Energy Components Group will receive 2 million dollars in tax credits over seven years from the state. Kilgus says the company has set a start date for October.
