Detroit Mayor Considers Giving Land to Entrepreneurs
Bing made the remarks at a breakfast with regional leaders. He says such a program would help jump-start small business development in Detroit's neighborhoods, and bring in much-needed tax revenue.
"There are a lot of people coming to the office with proposals at this point in time," he said. "We're not going to rush into anything, so we're starting to take an inventory of the proposals, get an inventory of the land parcels that the city owns, and see how we can start to match things up."
It's estimated that there are about 40 square miles of vacant parcels in the city of Detroit. That's almost 30 percent of the city.
