Deadline for Conyers to report to prison is Friday DETROIT, MI (Associated Press) - Unless an appeals court intervenes, former Detroit councilwoman Monica Conyers is due to report to a federal prison Friday to begin serving a sentence for corruption.

Conyers faces a 37-month sentence for taking bribes to support a sludge contract when she served on the council.

She pleaded guilty in 2009 but has been trying to undo her conviction. Conyers' lawyer has asked a federal appeals court to delay her sentence until an appeal can be heard, but the court so far has not replied.

Conyers is the wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, a Michigan Democrat and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
