(Michigan Radio) -

The Canadian government is reportedly in talks to buy the Ambassador Bridge.

Though no one is publicly confirming the talks.

Neither the Canadian government nor the owner of the Ambassador Bridge are commenting on a report in the Windsor Star, that the two sides are discussing the possible sale of the 80 year old bridge. The paper reports bridge owner Matty Moroun wants $3 billion for the span connecting Detroit with Windsor, Ontario.

A Transport Canada spokesman will only confirm that discussions have taken place. An Ambassador Bridge spokesman says that the Canadian government has from time to time expressed interest in buying the bridge but declined to say anything about possible current talks.

The Canadian government has been buying land in Windsor, as part of preparations for a new bridge. A Canadian spokesman says the second span is needed to support 'anticipated growth in border traffic.'
