Toyota USA Head Says Consumer Trust Will Be Regained....Not Sure When

(Michigan Radio) - Toyota's Jim Lentz has faith his company will regain customer trust, after a massive recall of vehicles for gas pedal problems.

Lentz is President of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.

He's been defending Toyota in numerous public appearances after the recall crisis. His latest appearance came on Digg Dialogg, an online social media site that allows users to ask questions.

The most popular question? What kind of car Lentz drives. But most of the other questions were about the recall.

Host, Dave Yewman: "Realistically, how long does it take to earn back consumer trust....two years....five years....ten years?"

Lentz: "I don't think it goes to that length of time. Obviously it's going to take a length of time. I can't put a finger on it. All I know is the best way to begin to earn back that trust is to take care of customers today."

Lentz says he talked to Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, after Wozniak told national media that his (Wozniak's) Prius experienced unintended acceleration.

Lentz says the actual problem involved the Prius's cruise control mechanism, and Wozniak's Prius is getting fixed.
