Judge: Kilpatrick Must Pay $319,000
Judge David Groner called Kilpatrick irresponsible, dishonest and self-serving. He says Kilpatrick tried to hide his assets as he sought to lower his payments to the city.
"In light of the revelations that defendant and his spouse have collectively received hundreds of thousands of dollars, prior to and since his release from jail, that defendant lives in a mansion in an upscale neighborhood, that defendant has secured a six-figure salary, this court finds it incredulous that defendant has the audacity to feign indigence," said Groner.
Groner also reduced the amount of time Kilpatrick has to pay the $1 million he owes as a result of his guilty plea to an obstruction of justice charge.
He says Kilpatrick must pay the city $319,000 in gifts, tax refunds, and other income he failed to disclose to the court.
Kilpatrick will also have his probation transferred back to Michigan from Texas, where he now lives.
