Aid to Haiti
ANN ARBOR, MI
(Michigan Radio) -
Groups across Michigan are sending whatever they can to help the people in Haiti.
The University of Michigan health system is sending much needed medical supplies and people to help.
"Like a puzzle," stockman Randall Black says with a smile, as he stacks a mix of surgical gloves crutches and other items being donated by the U of M medical center. U of M is working with an international aid group to make arrangements to get the much needed medical supplies to Haiti.
Dr. Sacha Montas is making his own arrangements to get to Port-Au-Prince. The emergency room physician's parents are natives of Haiti. He says his skills are needed now.
"From speaking to my family there is such a need for doctors," says Montas, "Such a need for care that probably very simple interventions, like antibiotics, like closing a wound that's open, may save a lot of lives."
Montas hopes to leave sometime in the next few days. He expects he'll be making many trips home in the coming months, as the medical needs evolve in Haiti. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
