Judge Rules Silverdome Sale Can Go Forward
A Canadian company won the Silverdome auction with a bid of just $583,000. The low price tag spurred an outcry from some Pontiac residents, and the Silver Stallion Corporation filed suit to stop the sale.
Silver Stallion says it reached a deal to buy the Silverdome for $20 million last year, but that deal was scuttled by racial discrimination.
Silver Stallion attorney David McGruder says the auction was improper, and Pontiac hurts itself by accepting such a low bid. "That's a one-time opportunity," McGruder told Judge Edward Sosnick. "And if that opportunity is lost, the citizens of the city of Pontiac and neighboring residents will not recover from that."
The city argued that Silver Stallion simply failed to close the deal on time, and Sosnick agreed.
