Holiday Season Not So Rosy for State's Temp Workers
ANN ARBOR, MI
(Michigan Radio) -
Black Friday is traditionally one of the biggest shopping days of the year.
Retailers usually hire seasonal workers to help stock shelves, direct customers and do whatever they can to help make your shopping experience more enjoyable.
John Flint says, unlike this time last year, he hasn't placed any seasonal temp workers with retailers yet. Flint works in Grand Rapids as a district manager for Kelly Services, a big temp agency in the state.
Flint says he thinks retailers are being more conservative with their money this year:
"So instead of bringing in a seasonal worker, maybe they're going to extend hours and work weeks for their full time staff, or get creative in other ways."
Still, Flint expects some retailers to sign up temps after the Black Friday weekend.
