MSU to Help Students Who Lost Promise Scholarhip Money
Kim Wilcox is a provost at Michigan State University. He says MSU assumed the state would fund the Promise, so it gave students credit for that money at the start of the semester. But when the state cut the program, MSU decided not to retroactively charge those students.
"Instead," says Wilcox, "we simply went ahead and made an institutional grant to those individual students for $500 per person."
Only students with documented financial need will receive another $500 in the spring.
All students will see their spring tuition drop by $5 per credit hour.
