Bing Stays as Detroit Mayor
(2009-11-04)

(Michigan Radio) - Dave Bing won his bid for a full term as Detroit Mayor Tuesday night.

Bing won the Mayor's race comfortably, taking almost 57% of the vote.

He admits that during his six months in office, he alienated city unions and some voters by seeking aggressive budget cuts. But Bing says he will continue to do what he thinks is necessary to fix Detroit's budget problems.

Bing says he also looks forward to working with the new City Council.

"There are five new members," Bing said. "It's going to be a different Council. It's going to be an interesting Council. And with a new President [Charles Pugh], there's going to be a learning curve."

Bing says he will now fill key vacant positions in his administration that he was unable to fill before he won a full term.
