(Michigan Radio) - The idea is to turn Buick City into an intermodal transportation hub, or a center that imports and exports products. Buick City was a former General Motors manufacturing plant.

Tim Herman is the CEO of the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce. He says the potential redevelopment of Buick City is important to the people who live here.

"You know we need to get this property back in productive use," he says. "And when it gets back into productive use it gives jobs to our community. It gives jobs to our local people. And it does give a sense of optimism to all of our people."

Herman says the people of Genesee County are resilient and will keep fighting. A brownfield community forum is planned for Wednesday at Mott Community College. It will include a panel of experts. Local people will also have a chance to give their input.
