Soon Off To Jail...But On The Ballot in Detroit
Elections officials expect to report how many votes are cast in Tuesday's nonpartisan primary for Monica Conyers, the former Detroit city councilwoman who resigned after pleading guilty to accepting bribes.
The wife of powerful and respected Democratic U.S. Rep. John Conyers is awaiting sentencing and cannot be re-elected, but her name still appears along with 167 candidates for city council on the ballot.
Detroit Director of Elections Daniel Baxter told reporters Friday that votes for Conyers will be tallied and reported along with the rest.
