Amtrak Could Break Thanksgiving Holiday Ridership Record
(2010-11-23)
(Michigan Radio) - Amtrak says it could set another record for holiday travel this week. Marc Magliari is a spokesman for the railway. He says last year, 686,000 people traveled on Amtrak during Thanksgiving week.

"The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the single biggest travel day of the season anywhere on Amtrak, says Magliari. "Certainly our Michigan routes are seeing very, very heavy travel, both on Wednesday and the Sunday after Thanksgiving, we're seeing reports of sold-out conditions."

Magliari says the combination of an improving economy with higher gas prices accounts for the uptick in Amtrak business.
