(MPRN) -

Democratic candidate for governor, and mayor of Lansing, Virg Bernero officially introduced his running mate this morning Bernero appeared with Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence at the Democratic Party Convention in Detroit.

Bernero and Lawrence say they are uniquely qualified to run state government because they are both executives and leaders of large cities in Michigan, and have hands-on experience.

"We understand that the buck stops with us. We have to sit at the table with people have different opinions and walks of life," says Lawrence, "It doesn't stop us from balancing our budget."

Lieutenant governor is a traditionally quiet role, with the responsibility of leading daily Michigan state Senate procedure. But Bernero says he wants to expand the role of lieutenant governor well beyond the typical duties to include Lawrence in more collaborative decision making, if they win in November.
