(Michigan Radio) -

The federal government has now allocated 13 million dollars for the Kalamazoo River oil spill clean-up.

A ruptured pipeline spewed about a million gallons of crude oil one week ago. About half of the oil has been recovered.

The EPA's regional administrator Susan Hedman says the money will help.

"It may be the case they may need seek more funding," But at this point the ceiling is 13 million dollars, and I can tell you, we really need it."

Local, state and federal officials predict it will take months to complete the initial clean-up and monitoring will continue for years. The pipeline company is expected to pay for the clean-up.
