Flint Police Sue to Stop Layoffs
The police union will ask a judge to issue a temporary restraining order to keep the officers on the job.
Keith Spear is president of the union. He says the safety of the officers and the public are at risk:
"Flint is a very violent town and there are a lot of violent people, and we have to respond to these violent people, Spear says. "That's our job."
Spear says after the layoffs, there will be just 76 officers for the city of more than 100 thousand residents.
He says residents may have long waits for calls that don't involve violent crime.
Flint is facing an $8 million dollar budget shortfall.
