Judge Orders Ambassador Bridge to Tear Out Fuel Pumps, Duty-Free
Wayne County Circuit Judge Prentice Edwards says the structures were built illegally on city-owned land. He gave the bridge company three weeks to come up with a timetable and pick someone to oversee the demolition.
State Representative Rashida Tlaib says the ruling means the bridge company will be required to build a ramp to get trucks out of the neighborhood.
"This is a complaint that, when I went door-to-door, I couldn't even hear the resident talking to me because of the noise pollution," she said. "I mean, you had noise in the background, and vibrations from the trucks rumbling through the community."
Bridge officials say they haven't decided whether to appeal the decision. In a statement, the president of the bridge company said he hoped the ruling would end a stalemate with the state over opening freeway ramps connecting I-75 to the bridge.
