Candidates for Governor Don't Think Much of Granholm's Final Year Plans
Most of the declared candidates for governor say Governor Granholm's State of the State speech was too little too late.
Oakland County Sherriff Mike Bouchard says he agreed with the governor when she called for the budget to be balanced earlier, and on a two-year cycle.
"Those things should be done - they must be done - but this is year eight of her governorship," Bouchard says, "This is the final moment of the final hour and Michigan's been in this difficult water for a long time."
Republican state Attorney General Mike Cox is also running for governor.
"You know, the governor talked about she doesn't have a silver bullet," says Cox, "The next governor doesn't have a silver bullet - and that's obviously the truth, but she hasn't talked yet about biting the bullet. And she hasn't talked yet about reforming state government.
Cox says the governor is relying too much on money from the federal government to turn the state around.
State Senator Tom George and retired C-E-O Rick Snyder are also running for the Republican nomination for governor. All of them were in attendance for the State of the State speech, and had similar criticisms.
