Lawyer, Civil Rights Groups Want More Information On Abdullah Shooting
(2010-02-03)
Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah Muslim Alliance of North America
(Michigan Radio) - The attorney representing the family of an Imam killed by the FBI says he's seeking a second, independent autopsy performed.

Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah was shot and killed during an FBI raid on a Dearborn warehouse last October. The Wayne County Medical Examiner only released his autopsy this week, after Dearborn Police requested it be withheld while they investigated the raid.

The FBI says agents acted appropriately, shooting and killing Abdullah only after he shot an FBI dog.

Abdullah family attorney Nabih Ayad wants another autopsy performed because the first raises more questions than it answers. "We have lacerations, numerous lacerations, on his head, on his hands, inside his hands," Ayad says. "To me it's as if he's shielding off a particular animal--a dog. We don't know. These are just suspicions, but there are so many questions in this particular case."

The Michigan Council on American Islamic Relations also wants more details on the circumstances surrounding the raid. The group has filed Freedom of Information Act requests seeking possible video surveillance of the raid, and an autopsy report on the dog Abdullah allegedly shot.
