Detroit Political Consultant Charged With Threatening Girlfriend
(2009-12-22)
Sam Riddle Associated Press
(Michigan Radio) - A Detroit political consultant already facing federal bribery changes was arraigned on an assault charge Tuesday.

Sam Riddle faces assault and weapons charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at his live-in girlfriend, former Detroit State Representative Mary Waters.

Riddle and Waters both face federal charges of bribing a Southfield City Councilman to approve a pawn shop's relocation.

Riddle also faces charges of working with former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers to extort money from potential city contractors.

The criminal charges could land Riddle in jail for violating his bond on the Federal charges. Riddle has defiantly proclaimed his innocence on those charges, which stem from a wide-ranging and ongoing federal investigation into Detroit municipal corruption.
