Jobless Rate Improves Slightly
DETROIT, MI
(Michigan Radio) -
Michigan's unemployment rate dropped slightly last month - to 15.1 percent. But it's still well above the national rate.
State officials say there were 16,000 more people working in October than in September, in fields like construction and health care. But Ronald Morris was not among them.
"Where are the jobs?" said Morris, who was laid off from his job test driving Ford vehicles in February. "I'm able-bodied, I'm ready to work, I want work. Able to be trained, I want to be trained. So what's the problem?"
Unemployment in Detroit is much higher than the state as a whole. In September the city's jobless rate was almost 27.9 percent.
