Civil Rights Groups Want Probe of Imam Shooting
A coalition of civil rights groups has sent a letter to the U.S. Justice Department requesting a probe into the fatal shooting of a Detroit imam by federal agents.
The letter was sent Monday evening by groups including the Council on American-Islamic Relations' Michigan chapter, NAACP Detroit Branch, the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan and the Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice.
The coalition seeks to know whether excessive force was used during an FBI raid last month in suburban Dearborn in which Imam Luqman Abdullah was killed. Authorities sought to arrest him on several charges.
The Dearborn Police Department is investigating. Abdullah's mosque says FBI allegations he endorsed violence against the government are "utterly preposterous." © Copyright 2012, Associated Press
