Detroit School Board Wants State Probe of Taxes Owed
There is some speculation that the request could trigger a financial takeover of the city of Detroit. But the measure's sponsor, board member Annie Carter, says that's not her intent.
"All I want to know is where is the tax dollars, and are we getting the right amount of revenues for our students, in order to educate the children," said Carter.
The school district's state-appointed manager has sent letters to the city requesting $8.4 million it says the city owes DPS for the past three years. Carter is asking for a review that would go back several years.
