Granholm Says Only a Public Outcry Will Stop Education Cuts
The Governor says the Senate won't vote to increase revenue unless they see a popular "groundswell" opposing the cuts. She says schools face a crisis if the cuts stay.
"Right now these cuts are devastating," Granholm told parents, teachers and administrators for the Plymouth-Canton district. "And to many districts they are brutal. We don't have enough emergency financial managers in Michigan to be able to account for many of the districts that will go into a deficit status."
The Governor is encouraging parents, teachers, and school administrators to protest the cuts in Lansing. She says the state also needs to restructure education funding over the long term, which may require a ballot measure to amend Michigan's constitution. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
