(Michigan Radio) - Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero was reelected for a second term yesterday.

Bernero defeated challenger and long time city council member Carol Wood with around 60% of the vote.

Bernero is joined by two new members of the city council. he endorsed both candidates and says they're proof of public support for his efforts.

"The public has spoken very clearly. They went for these new faces," Bernero told an election night crowd, "They went for change, but interestingly they didn't change the leadership at the top."

Tina Houghton and Jessica Yorko won Lansing's second and fourth districts.
